When I got pregnant with Cecilia, I quickly found I couldn't stand the smell of burning wood. (There wasn't much of anything I could stand the smell of. Thanks to Richie for cooking the entire 9 months!) Because of my aversion to all things stinky, I had to give up my new found passion.
When Cecilia finally arrived, I could handle smells again but took a break from all things creative to experience life with this amazing creature. I wouldn't trade one moment of it and wish the tiny baby stage had not gone so fast. We got in to making some new items and I focused on other facets to our new business. My giant stack of things to burn collected more dust and I would look at them wishing for more time in the day every so often.
Recently, I got the itch again. I picked up this beautiful unfinished mirror I had picked up and started drawing. I draw everything freehand before I burn over it. The frame took me a whole week to draw. I had to steal a few minutes here or there between Cecilia, regular orders, work and getting ready for two shows with a bunch of new items and designs. Once I was done drawing it only took me about two hours to burn the whole mirror. I just couldn't stop once I started.
I have rekindled an old love and am so excited! My mirror will be on sale at the Spring Fest this weekend and I just can't wait to get started on my pile of projects. I have an unfinished chair that I have been dying to burn for two years...that may take a little longer to do.
